Four local churches in Ramona have joined forces to create the Ramona Youth Collaborative, an innovative and inclusive three-year youth ministry initiative aimed at providing a safe, welcoming space for the community’s youth. Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, First Congregational Church of Ramona, Ramona United Methodist Church, and Saint Mary’s in-the-Valley Episcopal Church are working together to foster spiritual depth, radical hospitality, love, and hope for middle and high school students.

The Collaborative’s mission is to nurture a space where youth feel valued, safe, and inspired to grow both personally and spiritually. Programs will include regular gatherings, retreats, service projects, mentorship opportunities, and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth and others who may feel marginalized.

The Rev. Hannah Wilder (St. Mary’s Episcopal), Pastor Kristie Grimaud (Ramona Methodist), Pastor Larry Hand (Spirit of Joy Lutheran) and Dr. Wes Ellis (First Congregational) of the RYC!

“This Collaborative is more than a youth program,” said Dr. Wes Ellis, a member of the Steering Committee. “It’s a commitment to the young people of Ramona, creating a community where they belong, explore their faith, and build lifelong connections.”

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to inclusivity and collaboration. While each church retains its unique traditions, the Collaborative unites them around shared values to create a thriving youth ministry.

Key Highlights of the Ramona Youth Collaborative:

  • Full-Time Youth Director: The Collaborative is actively searching for a dynamic leader to direct the initiative, coordinate programs, and provide pastoral care for youth. The position offers a $70,000 annual salary and begins in March 2025.
  • Programs Designed for Growth: Activities range from Bible studies and prayer retreats to beach trips and mental health workshops, ensuring holistic engagement.
  • Radical Hospitality: LGBTQ+ youth and others without a spiritual home are particularly welcome in this community of love and hope.

To bring this vision to life, the churches are pooling resources and reaching out to the wider community for support. The Collaborative’s $82,000 annual budget will fund the director’s salary and operational costs. Local businesses, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to contribute to this transformative initiative.
