New book showcases important voices shaping Episcopal theology today
Seabury Books, an imprint of Church Publishing Incorporated, is pleased to announce the publication, in February, of a new collection of seminal essays entitled Wisdom, Knowledge, and Faith: New Essays on the Future of Theology and the Episcopal Church, edited by Robert MacSwain and Kelli Joyce.
Bringing together fifteen influential Episcopal thinkers, this groundbreaking book amplifies today’s vibrant and evolving landscape of Episcopal theology and offers reflections on unique paths in exploring theology, the challenges and responsibilities of theological work today, and a new collective vision for the future of faith within The Episcopal Church.
“Without the scholarship on display in this volume, making our witness would be even more daunting than it already is…. Here you will find a heartening display of the best theological thinking in today’s Episcopal Church,” says Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe in his foreword.
Contributors include a compelling mix of scholars and practicing theologians from across the Episcopal spectrum, including Jason Fout, Francisco Garcia, Katherine Sonderegger, Kathryn Tanner, Kara Slade, and Olufemi Gonsalves. Matthew Ichihashi Potts, of the Harvard Divinity School, provided an afterword.
Kelli Joyce is a PhD candidate in Theological Studies at Vanderbilt University and holds graduate degrees from Yale University (MDiv) and the University of Durham (MA). Her research focuses on the intersection of doctrinal, liturgical, and queer theology. She has previously served as a parish priest in the Diocese of Arizona.
Robert MacSwain is Associate Professor of Theology at the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, and a co-editor of Anglican Theological Review. He holds graduate degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary (MDiv), the University of Edinburgh (MTh), and the University of St. Andrews (PhD), as well as a postgraduate diploma in Anglican studies from Virginia Theological Seminary. He is the author or editor of eight previous books in philosophy, theology, and Anglican studies.
