New from Michael Battle: Essays that tackle the culture wars challenging the Anglican global church
Seabury Books is pleased to announce the publication, in December, of the second book in a four-volume series, Conversations in Global Anglican Theology: Culture.
At a time when the world seems to be shifting away from a compassionate global order, the conversations in this groundbreaking book, edited by thought leader Michael Battle, amplify non-Western theological voices and address the theological fault lines in the Anglican Communion, challenging the Western church to better engage the global one. With writing from a richly diverse group of established and emerging theologians—including Khushnud Azariah, Chamni Byun, Mercy Tabitha Wambui Kamau, Noah Mbano, Walter Brownridge, James Tengatenga and Samuel Wells, — this volume presents the practical steps necessary to first practice and resemble a communion of churches.
The first book in Battle’s series, Conversations in Global Anglican Theology: Faith, received a great deal of praise, including from theologian, literary critic, and former archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. “A book like this is itself an act of faith,” he said.
Michael Battle is the Extraordinary Professor at the Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice, the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, Theologian in Community at Trinity Church Boston, and formerly taught at General Theological Seminary in New York, where he was the Herbert Thompson Professor of Church and Society and Director of the Desmond Tutu Center. He was ordained a priest by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and later given one of the highest Anglican Church distinctions as “Six Preacher,” by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. He lives in Knightdale, North Carolina.
