CARAVAN launches a new exhibition featuring three premier contemporary artists from the faith traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam on the importance of caretaking the earth inspired by the ancient story of Noah

CARAVAN’s new contemporary art exhibition titled “NOAH: A Future Hope – 3 Faiths – 3 Artists – 1 Story” has launched its three-year global tour, premiering in Houston, Texas at the Margolis Gallery, which is housed at Beth Israel Congregation. CARAVAN has curated peacebuilding art exhibitions in sacred spaces of the Episcopal Church and around the Anglican Communion since 2013.

The exhibition builds on the words of Sir David Attenborough, broadcaster, biologist, naturalist and writer; “In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the Earth. . . . If working apart we are a force powerful to destabilize our planet, surely working together we are powerful enough to save it.”

As a recent landmark report announced that our planet is grappling with a “new reality” as it reaches the first in a series of catastrophic and potentially irreversible climate tipping points, CARAVAN’s new exhibition focuses on what we can learn from the ancient story of Noah, the flood narrative shared by all the Abrahamic faith traditions.

At a time when our world is experiencing a climate catastrophe with far-reaching consequences, NOAH: A Future Hope is an artistic call on the need to unite and proactively participate in ensuring a sustainable future for the earth and all its life forms. This contemporary art exhibition visually demonstrates how the epic story of Noah, one of the most well-known flood stories in history, has much to teach us. This quintessential tale is deeply embedded in the faith traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam who all see Noah as a spiritual figure who serves as a reminder of humanity’s role as a protector, steward and caretaker of creation.

Through seven lessons drawn from the story of Noah, this timely exhibition features three premier contemporary artists from the faith traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam whose artistic practices uniquely blend their spiritual, cultural and creative expression – Yona Verwer, Brian Whelan and Hady Boraey. Each artist created eight paintings that serve to visually inspire our imaginations to heal our world by honoring our intricate connection to the earth as our sustainer, and by maintaining a sacred balance with all of life that is upon it.

The exhibition, curated by CARAVAN’s president, Paul G. Chandler, will run in Houston at the Margolis Gallery through December 5, 2025, and will then tour for three years throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East to art venues, cultural centers and heavily-trafficked sacred spaces, including various Episcopal cathedrals.

What can the Noah flood narrative teach us about how we should live towards preserving the earth both for ourselves and future generations? That is the question this poignant exhibition attempts to answer.

About CARAVAN’s exhibitions, The Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe, Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, says, “Art can transform the soul and dissolve the differences that divide us. CARAVAN’s exhibitions, which have been held in sacred spaces around the world, provide meaningful opportunities to celebrate the gifts of diverse cultures, peoples and faith traditions, and create lasting change. I invite you to consider hosting a CARAVAN exhibition.”
