Florida priest Charleston Wilson appointed to board of the American Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome

The Rev. Charleston Wilson, rector of Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota, FL, traveled to Rome in late September for his first meeting at the Anglican Centre.

The Rev. Charleston Wilson, rector of Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota, was recently appointed by the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Sean Rowe, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome, Italy.The Centre serves as the embassy of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Communion to the Vatican. It acts as the embodiment of the Anglican Communion’s commitment to Christian unity as part of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. The Centre is a nonprofit that supports the official ecumenical dialogue between the Anglican and Roman communions. It is also a place of worship, study, and hospitality.

“I’m honored by this opportunity to begin serving with the Anglican Centre,” Wilson said. “Unity can seem out of reach, but the Centre works every day to pursue what Jesus wanted — for all Christians to act as one in witness to God’s love. It’s exciting to be part of something that’s pointing us toward deeper unity in Christ.”

The Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome includes priests and lay people with a diversity of views on social, political, and theological positions. All are committed to a dialogue between the Anglican Communion and the Roman Catholic Church. The Centre, a resource for the Anglican Communion and beyond, is supported by Presiding Bishop Rowe, other bishops, and donors from throughout the U.S.

Wilson traveled to Rome in late September for his first meeting at the Anglican Centre.
